The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain Branch, will hold a workshop entitled The Specifications and Standards for the Development of Exports at DED Head Office on Tuesday, the workshop will be attended by Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council and a number of governmental and semi-governmental establishments and several factories and companies operating in Al Ain. The workshop aims to raise the awareness among local factories and support them to develop their exports to international markets through underlining the paramount importance of specifications and standards for them so they would be able to obtain high quality for their exports in a manner that boosts their competitiveness according to the best international measures and standards.
Dr. Adeeb Al Afifi, Director of Exports Support and Foreign Trade, DED’s International Economic Relations Sector, stated that the workshop will be an integral part of DED's efforts to underpin foreign investments and increase the volume of non-oil exports in a way that befitted the expectations of Abu Dhabi Emirate to fulfill its Economic Vision 2030 and uplift non-oil exports which would represent 11% of the GDP by 2030.
Al Afifi added that in order to achieve this objective, DED offered a package of facilitations and incentives to develop the companies that offer products or services in Abu Dhabi Emirate with the purpose of acquiring and developing the necessary knowledge to develop their exports and also assist small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) and the projects of Emirati young entrepreneurs in Khalifa Fund to Support and Develop Small and Medium Enterprises in order to open up new horizons and gain access to new markets for their products.
Al Afifi also expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation for the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain Branch, for hosting the workshop, he also extended his appreciation for Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology and Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council for their keenness on ensuring the success of the workshop activities through offering presentations which raise the awareness of local factories with regard to focusing on developing and evolving the concepts of specifications and standards for their products.The workshop agenda includes opening speeches by HE Hamad Abdulla Almass, Executive Director of International Economic Relations Sector, HE Engineer Mohammad Saleh Badri, Acting Director General, ESMA, and HE Mohamed Helal Al Muhairi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.The workshop activities begin with a presentation by Emirates Specifications and Standards Authority, EMSA, entitled The Role of Specifications and Standards in Boosting National Economy and Bolstering the Competitiveness of National Industries, it will be followed by a presentation by Abu Dhabi QCC entitled Quality Infrastructure…Creating Global Opportunities for Local Companies and finally a presentation by a factory which obtained the Emirati Quality Mark.
