Tuesday, November 15, 2011
HE Mohammad Omar Abdullah, Undersecretary of the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi (DED) has inaugurated today the 5th edition of the Middle East Manufacturing Exhibition MEMEX 2011 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Center. The 3-day event is organized by Informa Exhibitions in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Chamber and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank. The number of exhibitors participating in this year’s edition of MEMEX 2011 has increased by 16% with more than 100 exhibitors from France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. DED’s stand in MEMEX 2011 hosts 10 local factories from Abu Dhabi. The number of visitors to the exhibition this year is expected to be more than 5,000 visitors, as the percentage of registered exhibition visitors has increased by about 100%, out of which about 40% are from the GCC countries. In a statement following a tour around the exhibition, DED Undersecretary said: “the wise leadership and government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi pays great attention to the manufacturing sector, as it is one of the reliable sectors in diversifying the emirate’s economic structure and sources of national income, and in reducing dependence on oil.” “Hence, the Abu Dhabi economic vision 2030 and the strategic plan of the emirate come in line with the objectives of developing this sector and increasing its productivity and competitiveness. By the end of 2010, the steps required to develop an integrated strategy for the advancement of the manufacturing industry in the emirate were completed.” He further explained that the purpose of developing an industrial strategy for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is to create an effective and competitor industrial sector that contributes well to the emirate’s GDP. This requires a systematic and scientific framework to develop an integrated industrial plan that provides mechanisms to support, develop and regulate the industrial sector and activities in the emirate, and to link the stakeholders’ sub-strategies to a unified industrial strategy that aligns with the overall plans and strategies of the Emirate. HE Abdullah expressed his desire that this edition of MEMEX 2011 will achieve its objectives of focusing on several sectors of industrial products the most important of which are metal products, surface treatment, welding and cutting and machinery and carpentry tools, as well as aluminum industries, building materials, oil and gas, shipbuilding, woodwork and furniture. “Choosing the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to host this global event each year comes from our understanding and our belief in the long-term economic vision 2030 for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as the emirate’s government continues to invest heavily in the manufacturing sector, and its most prominent projects so far are the industrial areas “Kizad”, “ICAD” and others.” he concluded that MEMEX 2011 provides an ideal platform and one-stop-shop for overseas manufacturers who wish to have industrial operations in this region or elsewhere, hailing the significant role played by all government and semi-government agencies involved in the development of this important sector, which has contributed to the promotion of this exhibition globally as one of the best exhibitions hosted by the capital Abu Dhabi.
