The Department of Economic Development - Abu Dhabi recently held in its headquarters a coordination meeting that was attended by 40 persons from a number of government agencies and regional and international companies operating in Abu Dhabi specializing in logistics services sector in order to discuss the challenges of moving to the new Sky City at Abu Dhabi Airport.During the meeting, called for by the Logistics Support Unit s at the DED’s Planning and Statistics Department, attendees discussed the proposed solutions and recommendations enabling private companies to perform their work in accordance with Sky City services, logistics support and multiple possibilities provided that would allow companies that have been established in Sky City to benefit from the free zones’ advantages, which include tax exemption, foreign ownership , transfer of funds and profits including the privileges normally provided by free zones.The meeting was attended by representatives of the Department of Transport, Abu Dhabi Airports Company, Abu Dhabi Chamber, management of Abu Dhabi Customs and the Competitiveness Office of Abu Dhabi. Were also present at the meeting representatives from companies at the level of executives and regional managers of DHL, Aramex, TNT, Fedex, UBS, Union Cargo, SIVA, Mikko and others.During the meeting, the essential role of Sky City in establishing the first free zone at the airport within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has been clarified. It is a comprehensive and integrated business compound that promotes and boosts diversified private investments in the emirate. Sky City offers a world class storage services in addition to full office solutions services for a wide range of business sectors, including the aviation sector and its industry and the logistics sector.Participants praised the initiative of the Department of Economic Development - Abu Dhabi. Organizing this coordination meeting contributed to enhancing communication and creating partnerships between the stakeholders from the private sector and related government institutions in development projects implemented by the Government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in particular the development of Abu Dhabi International Airport and the establishment of free zones for logistics support which contributes to achieving the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.The Sky City LLC is the last sub-companies that have been formed under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi Airports Company and designed to e establish and operate free zones at the company’s airports and to provide business compounds and logistics and full office solutions services. The company's objectives in the context of plans for the emirate are to set up and establish itself as a dynamic commercial center that serves the development of the aviation sector in the UAE and supports the achievement of Abu Dhabi Economic vision 2030.Under the decision of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi No. 61 of 2010, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Al Ain International Airport and Al Bateen Executive Airport have been declared to be private free zones. The establishment of these areas has been assigned to Sky City, under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi Airports Company, in addition to providing all required services thereof as free zones, starting with Abu Dhabi International airport.Sky City spans over more than 12 square kilometers around the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and covers five business areas namely: Logistics Park, T3 Business Park, Southside Mixed Use Development, Al Falah District and Airport City.The aim of the establishment of the Sky City is to create a unique and favorite business destination for international and local organizations in the aviation and airports industry and aviation in general, as well as logistics and shipping sectors. The other target sectors include all activities related to aviation and light industries that require speed in transport and storage for the purposes of import and export.Sky City provides a wide range of facilities and infrastructure such as transportation, logistics, storage units, commercial offices and land or development work, in addition to a full range of basic facilities to serve the needs of everyday business. Sky City also offers a full range of free zone services such as company registration, licenses, leasing and visa processing for employees, and all of that in an integrated business environment that fulfills customer’s needs along with the completion of all the requirements of his work during one single visit and in one place.
