Abu Dhabi DED and the UNDP Unite to Launch the First Abu Dhabi Human Development Report 2011/2012

Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and the United Nations Development Programme are preparing for the launch of the first Abu Dhabi Human Development Report on Tuesday 9th of October 2012. The findings of the report are not just a world class academic work, but they serve as a reference documenting the development status of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as it assesses the strengths and weaknesses within the community.The event is expected to gather over 300 attendees of governmental officials, decision and policies makers, and senior delegations from the civil society and academia.Four key note speeches will be delivered respectively by HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, followed by Paolo Lembo, UAE United Nations Resident Coordinator, United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative a.i. and HE Mohammed Omar Abdullah, Undersecretary, Department of Economic Development (DED), Abu Dhabi, , and Dr. Mohammed bin Huwaidin, Associate Professor and Chair of Department of Political Science, UAE University, the Lead Author of the Abu Dhabi Human Development Report (ADHDR). The first Abu Dhabi Human Development Report will discuss the human development in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, with emphasis on its various aspects including; a chapter on statistics where the human development index (HDI) was calculated specifically for Abu Dhabi, a chapter on demography, a chapter on education, a chapter on employment and a chapter on economy defining the “knowledge economy” and highlighting the 2030 Vision.
