The Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi (DED) signed an agreement with UAE University (UAEU) with the purpose of establishing a mutual coordination and exchanging expertise from both parties, and specialized scientific and academic studies in the field of engineering and other relevant disciplines while maintaining focus on the general strategies and systems which are being developed or proposed by either of the two parties.
The agreement was signed today at the DED headquarters in Abu Dhabi by H.E. Mohammad Omar Abdulla, Undersecretary of DED and H.E. Dr. Abdullah Al-Khanbashi, UAEU Vice Chancellor, in the presence of a number of officials from both parties.
H.E. Mohammad Omar Abdullah commented on the signing of the agreement by stating that DED signed it in the context of the tasks and missions it has been charged with in the light of Law No. 2 issued in 2009 regarding the establishment of DED to submit proposed economic policies and prepare economic plans in cooperation with governmental and semi-governmental agencies and academic and scientific establishments and other concerned entities at the local and federal levels and escalate them to top decision-makers.
His Excellency stressed DED's keenness on evolving an advanced legislative environment in Abu Dhabi Emirate by suggesting organizational legislations for economic activities and preparing the necessary studies to revitalize the role played by the private sector and the propose policies and strategies that would contribute to developing it. Moreover, DED takes responsibility for attracting investors by holding forums, conferences and economic activities at the local and federal levels.
H.E. the Undersecretary of DED highlighted the high level of cooperation and joint coordination with UAEU which takes the lead in conducting studies and scientific and academic researches, and illustrated that DED is currently categorizing the companies and corporations operating in the contracting business and registering engineering consultants in Abu Dhabi according to the new systems which focus on establishing a comprehensive database of contractors and consultants as well as registering engineers working in the Emirate.
On the other hand, Dr. Abdullah Al-Khanbashi stated that UAEU prepares engineering students to join the employment market after their graduation and raises the standard of education in the engineering disciplines, and also develops the performance skills of engineers through continuous career development at the Continuing Education Center, and holding conferences engineering forums, and conducting studies researches pertinent to this field, and offering technical consultation.
As for the agreement, Al-Khanbashi stated that UAEU is pleased to bolster cooperation and mutual coordination with DED to achieve one of the most important objectives on its agenda which aims to underscore the economic policy of Abu Dhabi Emirate and the entire country and achieve sustainable development for Abu Dhabi Emirate in order to enable it to take the lead at the regional international levels.
In the light of this agreement, both sides have agreed to participate in conferences, exhibitions and workshops which are pertinent to highlighting the role of this strategic partnership, and the vital role it plays in this context, and using the logos of both sides in all relevant conferences within the limits drawn by the laws and regulations of each side, and also participate in promoting the system of allowing engineers register engineering students.
