Tuesday, February 01, 2011
Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (DED) today launched the second phase of Waste Recycling Project as part of its commitment towards environment protection and sustainability. According to DED, this phase follows several initiatives undertaken with an aim to preserve the environment, such as the agreement inked by DED with Environment Friends Society for paper recycling.Mr. Saeed Maktoum Al-Qubaisi, Director of General Services at DED and deputy director of Environment, Health and Safety Team, said, “We are proud of the level of environmental awareness our employees possess, which is translated into environment-protection initiatives and voluntary acts in environment-centric activities Abu Dhabi is witnessing. The DED is one of the founding entities of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group and works closely with various government entities to ensure the success of environmental sustainability in various aspects.”“The launch of the second phases of Waste Recycling Project and publishing e-guide on recycling compliment the Department’s environment-focused objectives. Besides, such an initiative is in line with the Department’s endeavors to support Abu Dhabi’s sustainable development drive in environmental, business and social aspect while raising awareness of the environment conservation”, he added, noting that the department launched many EHS initiatives to reduce energy consumption at DED HQ, such as “put the lights off before you leave”, and the “green screen” campaign to switch desktop screens when away from the office for more than 5 minutes.
