Abu Dhabi DED Awarded Best HR Strategy in Middle East

Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (DED) was granted “The Best Human Resources Strategy” award during its participation at the 6th Summit for Human Capital in the Middle East for 2011 held in Dubai. HE Mohammed Omar Abdullah, DED’s Undersecretary, stated that this accolade honours the highly developed strategic systems upon which the Department operates whilst recognizing excellent performance and initiatives undertaken by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. “Such a highly acclaimed award recognizes the achievements of DED in promoting human resources. Besides, it will motivate other sections and directorates to follow suit by adopting world-class strategies and standards that are in line with Abu Dhabi Government’s trends and objectives of Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030”, HE said. Commenting on this award, Mr. Ghanem Mohammed Al Fandi, the Executive Director of Support Services, DED, highlighted that the initiatives and measures undertaken by the Department to promote and develop its HR bear witness to its belief that employees are the cornerstone to attain its vision, mission, objectives and five-year strategy. “DED endevours to achieve the highest excellence in HR performance by providing all support and resources that help tackle all challenges and overcome hindrances whilst helping it operate as per the world-class standards”, he said. Mr. Mohammed Khalil Al Hosani, Director of HR, DED, stated that one of the key challenges the Department is currently facing is to promote its role as the best government employer of the local skills, an initiative which aims to create a new generation of employees capable of tackling all challenges while empowered with multiple skills to help attain all objectives and trends of the general policy of the Emirate. “Such an ambition can be attained through review, benchmarking, and constant development as per the world-class practices and integrated strategies linked to the HR objectives that aim to attract, appraise, retain, promote and upscale best skilled and experienced employees”, he explained. “In line with the objectives of Abu Dhabi’s Government to achieve excellence in government performance, we are keen to participate in this annual Summit for Human Resources Capital, which attracts many GCC leading entities and establishments to compete on coveted HR awards such as best training, localization, performance assessment, best HR manager, change management, and best employer”, he said. During this Summit, the international judges have agreed that, following a thorough review and assessments of strategies, their implementations, and outcomes, the DED is to be granted the Best HR Award.
