The Department of Economic Development - Abu Dhabi (DED) has officially launched today Abu Dhabi Media Club with the participation of each of the Statistics Center - Abu Dhabi (SCAD), Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the Higher Corporation for Specialized Economic Zones (HCSEZ), the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development (ADCED) and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) as the official sponsor of the club.
The ceremony to inaugurate the club, that was organized by the DED at its headquarters, has been attended by HE Mohamed Omar Abdullah, DED’s Undersecretary, HE Mohamed Hassan Al Qamzi, CEO of HCSEZ, HE Fahad Saeed Al Raqbani, Director General of ADCED, HE Hussain Al Kathiri Secretary General of QCC and Abdullah Saleh, Executive Vice President of NBAD Group.
In a speech given during the inauguration ceremony, HE Mohammed Omar Abdullah thanked the DED’s supporting partners and founders of the Abu Dhabi Economic Media Club, which officially starts today with an economic program that includes many conferences and press and media events to be organized until the end of this year.
Abu Dhabi Economic Media Club is the common platform where we all meet to achieve our common goal to professionally bring to light the main activities and outputs in the economic sector and related fields in order to enhance the relationship of the media with the government entities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates in general, HE said.
We, in the Department of Economic Development, embrace this club and hope to achieve a quantum leap in media coverage of our activities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. We believe in the importance of the strategic partnership that unites us to the local and foreign media, based on the principle of transparency and the conscientiousness in strengthening this relationship by providing the tools and means that would enable the media to play its important and main role and to highlight the developments and events taking place in the economy of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates in general..
HE also confirmed his support and commitment to make Abu Dhabi Economic Media Club the first destination of the media that enables them to get information and facts for their press and media coverage so as to enhance their relations with decision makers in government agencies that founded this club.
He said that this day is witnessing the firstfruits of Abu Dhabi Economic Media Club in its first foundation stage and that the club’s agenda of activity will be completed, by the beginning of this year, in cooperation and coordination with DED’s strategic partners. DED’s Undersecretary expressed the wish that this program meet will meet the aspirations of the media in light of the media services, facilities and enablers it will soon provide them with and which would make it a prime platform and an important destination to the media staff who will rely on the Club to bring to light their articles about the economy of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.HE Mohammed Omar Abdullah, at the end of his speech, said that the success of Abu Dhabi Economic Media Club will be coupled with the extent of interaction, attention and keenness of the media to permanently cover all of its events which will benefit from the Club’s attention and commitment to provide the best for journalists and press and media institutions.
From his part, HE Butti Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Director General of Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi, made a statement on this occasion and stressed the importance of Abu Dhabi Economic Media Club and its expected role to support the development plans of the emirate by strengthening the relationship and the privileged partnership that exists between all government agencies and the media, especially that the media touches everyone in the community through multiple and appropriate means and tools, which makes it the best communication channel between the decision makers and the public.
Al Qubaisi said that Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi is ready to cooperate with the Club and the media to fulfil the expected role of this partnership, insisting in this context on the keenness of the Statistics Centre to provide the latest databases on the emirate which will be available and accessible to reporters and all the journalists attending the media events to be organized at the Club.
He also thanked the other participating government organizations, looking forward to the participation of the largest number of other parties to complete the media partnership system and service everyone’s interest guided by our wise leadership.
From his part, Abdullah Mohammed Saleh Abdel Rahim, E Executive Vice President of NBAD Group said: The Bank is proud to be a partner in the launch of the Abu Dhabi Economic Media Club because it believes in the importance of a media specialized in promoting the development taking place in the state.
He affirmed the bank's keenness to cooperate with all media aimed at working to spread the values of transparency and objective approach in order to spread awareness of economic issues, particularly as Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 aims to strengthening the capital’s position as a global economy and business centre.
He explained that the Bank's support for this pioneering initiative by the Department of Economic Development is in line with the bank’s aspirations of being an integral part of Abu Dhabi’s texture and confirms the bank’s commitment to contribute positively to the important events in the United Arab Emirates and the rest of the countries in which it exercises its banking activities..

The representatives of the media assisted during the ceremony to the presentation of the Club as a service tool or means that enables the Department of Economic Development and its strategic partners to promote the economy of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the determinants of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 and also as a meeting place for locals and foreigners journalists from inside and outside the state and the connecting link between the local and foreign media and government bodies and institutions in the Emirate.
Abu Dhabi Economic Media Club seeks to achieve particular objectives in its foundation stage which is the implementation of the agenda of events of the DED and its partners, the hosting of the most important economic activities of the concerned authorities, the organization of conferences, seminars, press releases and specialized lectures in the economic sector of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the strengthening of DED and its strategic partners’ leading role in the leadership of the economic public agenda of the Emirate.
It also seeks to achieve a number of general goals that focus on promoting the economy of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the determinants and objectives of vision 2030 and make it the first economic platform of the Emirate and the first destination for economic delegations visiting the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and to become the headquarters of the main activities of partner government agencies.
The club features in its foundation stage logistical capabilities to the media as it offers a press conference hall and a theatre, both equipped with high audio-visual techniques, interpretation services and a filming site for press and television exclusive meetings.
The club offers individual memberships for journalists working in the field of economic reading, audio, visual or electronic media from within the state. This includes two categories: delegates of local media and foreign media reporters accredited by the National Media Council.
The club also offers a corporate membership through government partners and local government and federal agencies in Abu Dhabi at the state level in addition to the main sponsors and national companies.
The Club organizes a number of press conferences and special events of the DED and its strategic partners that will continue until the end of the year and it includes press conferences that will start on Monday with the launch of Family Income and Expenditure Survey of the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi and the launch of the electronic services of Abu Dhabi Business Centre along with the release of the semi-annual economic report issued by the National Bank of Abu Dhabi and GCC Fund Outlook book about the bank’s investment funds in the Gulf during the month of October.
The club also organizes a number of press conferences, notably the launch of the Statistical Yearbook in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi 2013 and the announcement of the Human Development Indicators report in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi 2013 of Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi, in addition to the report of Economic Forecasts in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (2013-2016) of the Department of Economic Development.
Next November, the Club will host foreign media representatives, invited by theNational Media Council in the country on the occasion of the 42th National Day, to meet with HE Nasser Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department and HE Mohammed Omar Abdullah, Undersecretary of the Department on this occasion. It will also hold, in December, a press conference to launch the Economic Report of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for the year 2013.
